NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (NLCA)
was founded in 1993 for the purpose of educating the children residing with New Life Link, an international adoption program. The former name of the school was New Life Christian School. We belief that faith and learning are key and inseparable components of Christian education. As a school that was born out of the evangelical and biblical conviction, the founders believed that excellent college preparatory education was possible without compromising the Christian philosophy of the school. This critical component of our school is captured in the name of the institution – NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY. NLCA is a Christian college-preparatory school..
Our Core Values:
Organizational
Spiritual Life
A true, traditional liberal arts curriculum is infused by our Christian faith as NLCA seeks to educate the whole person. Staff and faculty seek to integrate faith and learning into every aspect of NLCA and our community--whether that's through weekly chapels, spiritual conversations both in and out of the classroom, reflection and prayer.
Spiritual Life Goals
Our desire is that students will be more enabled to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. We earnestly hope, throughout their NLCA careers, that all of our students will grow spiritually, such that they:
The Upper School chaplains meet regularly with the Chaplain Prefect and the School Chaplain to discuss spiritual issues facing students and to encourage one another in leading students. This is a time that is given over to both planning and training chaplains in their roles as spiritual leaders.
Spiritual Emphasis Week
Each year, NLCA has a Spiritual Emphasis Week where we invite special guests to speak in chapel services, attend classes, and engage with students on spiritual topics. Evening sessions are regularly offered for parents to offer support on a relevant topics facing teens and their faith today. Although classes are still in session, the week offers the community an opportunity to spiritually reflect on who we are before God and who we are for each other.

Pre-Kindergarten Program
Our award-winning Pre-Kindergarten program offers families a safe, nurturing environment that stimulates the intellectual curiosity of their students. Our two Pre-K classes are full of energy, excitement, and discovery. We inspire students to learn, while providing the patience and individualized instruction necessary for each child to grow and develop at his or her own pace.
Families consistently recognize, and appreciate, the ways that our unique blend of personalized academic instruction, social and character development, and opportunities for creativity combine to provide an educational experience that places a high value on maximizing the potential of each student.
Our teachers develop consistent routines that allow children to feel a sense of security and safety, while also providing the opportunity for new learning and instruction within the structured environment. In our Pre-K program, students develop the academic, social, and emotional foundations necessary for success in our challenging Lower School classrooms. We strive to instill in our Pre-K students a deep sense of curiosity, a strong desire to learn, and the resiliency to achieve long-term goals. Our students are loved and cared for as our teachers help them to grow and discover the wonders of the world around them.
Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 5
Suddenly it happens. One day our children are tiny and as their parents or guardians, we are the center of their world. But the next day (it seems), they’re starting school and now their world has vastly expanded. Many hours of each day are now spent with teachers. At SSCA we understand the importance of this responsibility and take pride in the partnership we foster with each parent or guardian.
The Lower School curriculum is designed to foster curiosity in young minds, to set firm the foundations necessary for our challenging Middle School program, and to create a fun and caring environment.
Throughout the Lower School program, students will learn and discover through a variety of interdisciplinary and hands-on learning approaches designed to engage the mind and build the thinking and social skills necessary for the 21st century. The Lower School program uses critically-approved curriculum to ensure that a student’s learning builds upon itself as the student progresses.
A hallmark of our Lower School faculty is their deep love for teaching young children, whose exuberance for life, friends, learning, and laughing makes each day fun. Our faculty work to incorporate lessons of faith throughout the day, not just in our Character Education classes. Additionally, each Lower School class regularly attends Art, Music, P.E. and Health, and Computers classes, taught by faculty members who excel in their respective areas. Outside of the classroom, students can participate in sports, instrumental lessons, our STEM club, and much more.
From the first day in our award-winning Pre-Kindergarten program, to the last day in our Fifth Grade’s culminating History Fair project, each moment spent in the SSCA Lower School is an opportunity for growth and wonder.
Grade 6 - Grade 8
Middle School matters. These momentous years in a young person’s life mark the time when he or she transitions from childhood into youth. Essential experiences shape a young person in how he or she sees themselves and the world and they equip him or her to flourish in that world. At SSCA, our Middle School program is designed to challenge developing minds within a caring environment.
In addition to the core classes of Math, English, Lab Science, History, and Bible, the NLCA Middle School student will take classes in French (2 years), Theatre Appreciation, Public Speaking and Debate, P.E. and Health, Art, and Study Skills.
Middle School faculty integrates faith and character into school life. As students develop their social identity, our faculty engages them individually and as a class in what it means to live a life that values others and honors God. Each subject, not just Bible class, integrates Micah 6:8 into its course design, demonstrating that every aspect of learning connects with justice, mercy, and humility.
Grade 9 - Grade 12
High School is a student’s last stage of youth, a critical period when he or she first steps into adulthood. These crucial years help prepare a student not only for college, but for the rest of his or her life. NLCA's academic program is purposefully designed with these goals in mind.
Throughout their high school career, students will take honors or advanced level courses, which are taught by faculty with advanced degrees in their fields. A focal point of the High School program is the importance of oral and written communication. An NLCA graduate will read, write, and speak well. Our upper level humanities courses use the Harkness Method, a learning approach that encourages students to pursue and share ideas on their own, with guidance from teachers trained in using this method. This learning approach has been recognized as a key element in preparation for higher education, and has been an important factor in our own students’ success as they matriculated to some of the world’s best colleges and universities.
Our students are encouraged to integrate their learning and their faith, and our faculty members work to model this kind of integration in their own lives. We hold that every aspect of the human intellect can be directed toward serving Christ and serving others. Our graduates are well prepared to go forth from NLCA pursuing lives of faith that bring goodness to their families, communities, and the world.

Extracurricular Opportunities:
The Senior Capstone Project is a long-term, interdisciplinary, independent study assignment that serves as the culmination of a senior’s intellectual experience at South Shore Christian Academy. As a long-term project, throughout their senior year, students will identify a topic, submit a proposal for investigation, craft a thesis statement, conduct research, submit a final paper, and give a final oral presentation. The project will conclude with an oral examination by a committee of the submitted work.
As an interdisciplinary project, the study must cover at least two of the academic disciplines taught at NLCA. One of the two disciplines must be Math, English, Science, Art, Spanish, or History, and the second must be “Bible or Christian Thought.”
What are the benefits of such a project?
Senior Capstone Projects are a staple in college preparatory schools. Culmination projects provide a stimulating learning experience that encourages higher-level academic work. Such projects cultivate a desire for learning and foster the type of critical thinking and presentation skills that are expected of students entering college. Students who are working on a Senior Capstone Project will then be able to present to college and university admissions committees the quality of their own academic work and individual interests.
The successful completion of a project typically requires students to develop and improve upon a variety skills and responsibilities. This can often boost self-esteem and confidence. Further, a student is able to see clearly the strength of their academic abilities and feel a strong sense of accomplishment.
Finally, such projects demonstrate the effectiveness of the student’s high school education. Parents invest a great deal in providing for their student a New Life Christian Academy Education. The Senior Capstone Project provides an opportunity for parents to see the depth of their son or daughter’s learning, including the integration between learning and the Christian faith.

Early Education: Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten
New Life's Early Education program (Prekindergarten and Kindergarten) develops emergent readers and problem-solvers through activities based on phonics, one-to-one correspondence, number and letter recognition, as well as early math concepts including counting, pattern recognition, and simple math. Likewise, each child’s natural curiosity is welcomed and encouraged through creative play, field trips and hands-on activiites. Age-appropriate lessons in history and science are an added complement to the program.
New Life teaches early reading using "Reading with TLC" which is comprised of 2 creative programs, Lively Letters and Sight Words You Can See. Lively Letters improves phonemic awareness, speech production, and phonics, while Sight Words You Can See facilitates the training of abstract sight words that don't follow the rules of phonics, such as "come," and "want."
The daily schedule for Pre-K and Kindergarten is an active one that matches the energy of the students. In addition to lessons, structured play, and personal activity time, students also participate in daily enrichment activities that span a variety of subjects such as art, music, physical education, health, Bible, French, computer and library.
New Life's Early Education Program is committed to providing a sound educational and Christian experience that not only stimulates learning and development, but also promotes spiritual and social growth through a supportive staff and nurturing environment.
Elementary School: Grades 1-5
The Elementary School welcomes the opportunity to partner with parents in helping their children develop the gifts and talents God has given to each of them. The goal of the elementary school is to incorporate the best instructional methods and practices to meet the educational, physical, social and spiritual needs of all students. Students are encouraged to work together to create an exciting, safe and positive learning environment based on sound educational research supported by Biblical principles.
New Life's emphasis is for each elementary student to become a comprehensive, independent thinker, reader, and writer equipped with the skills to help him or her increase achievement in all subject areas. Teachers focus on specific objectives, thought processes, and the visual tools necessary for developing such comprehension.
In addition to the traditional academic subjects, elementary students also receive instruction in Bible, French and/or Spanish, art, music, library, computer, physical education and health.
Middle School: Grades 6-8
Recognizing the unique developmental needs of pre-teens, the middle school strives to integrate quality education with purposeful Biblical application throughout our middle school program. Core subjects are taught with the intent of encouraging students to think critically, and to take a leadership role in their education. Through academic integration and weekly chapel services, students are challenged to develop their character, and to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
In addition to core academics, additional opportunities such as J-term take the learning experience outside the walls of the school. All experiences combined, both in and out of the classroom, help to prepare our students to successfully transition to their high school career.
High School: Grades 9 - 12
The High School focuses on preparing students for college by cultivating a Biblical mindset, critical thinking skills, and a compassion for others. It is our desire to enable our students to think from a sound and godly mind, so that God may be glorified in all their future endeavors. Our students’ spiritual growth is fostered through their participation in retreats, weekly chapels, positive peer groups, and community service.
Instruction is scripturally integrated so that God’s natural creation and His special revelation, the Bible, come together to form a complete worldview. Students also have opportunity to engage in sports, drama, and art which reflect God’s nature and encourage the gifts and abilities God has given to each.
High school curriculum provides well-rounded educational opportunities with a comprehensive scope, offering a rigorous challenge for the college-bound student.

- We believe that the salvation of man is by the grace of God and that man is justified through faith in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those saved unto the resurrection of eternal life, and those lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

From its pages, we can gain a clear direction for everyday living as it reveals to mankind the only way to heaven and the only hope for eternity.

Each staff member views his/her work at New Life as a ministry, not just a job.

NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Our Mission & NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY is an independent college preparatory school that exists to educate young men and women in the arts and sciences in the context of a complete commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (NLCA) was founded in 1993 for the purpose of educating the children residing with New Life Link, an international adoption program.
GLORIFYING GOD - We seek to glorify God in all activities and relationships and in the use of the resources God has given us.
PARTNERSHIP - We view the education of children as a partnership between parents and the Academy.
TRUTH - We acknowledge absolute truth, as revealed in God's Word and through His creation, and its relevance to our lives.
Operational
RESPECT - Each person is created in God's image and therefore will be treated with respect.
EXCELLENCE- Continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence will underlie all that we do.
HONESTY - Our relationships and academic performance will be based on honesty and fairness.
Understand God's love for them and develop a deeper relationship with Him
Understand Biblical narrative and know how to apply it to their daily lives
Develop deep convictions to love and serve their neighbors
Offer spiritual leadership within their homes, churches and communities
Class Chaplain
Student chaplains are an integral part of NLCA. Several students are selected each year by their peers to be class leaders. These students help plan activities and are also responsible for serving their grades by offering homeroom devotions.
